♥ Win a Date With Leo ♥

Relive the magic in iambic pentameter.

Relive the magic in iambic pentameter.

This is not like the time I announced my engagement to Zac Efron. (Hey, a girl can dream!) This is an opportunity of Titanic proportions. And it’s 100 percent legit.

Leonardo DiCaprio – as if I have to specify – is auctioning off a ticket to the premiere of his new film, Shutter Island, via eBay. Green hotel accommodations and an eco-friendly ride to the premiere will be provided, complements of Global Green USA, the eco-org the actor and noted environmentalist supports. According to the infamous Jack Dawson, your dollars will be directed towards “combat[ing] climate change and pursue[ing] important environmental imperatives, such as greening our nation’s schools, housing, cities and more.”

There are also signed copies of Titanic and personalized head shots to be won, as well as a Hawaiian shirt from the set of Catch Me If You Can. And remember, all the money will go towards Global Green’s green schools initiative. (How ’bout he makes a pit stop at NYU?)

Bidding began Wednesday night and will last until April 22nd – Earth Day! Better than Christmas.

A Revolutionary Guy

vanity_fair_knut_leo_dicaprio1There is a fine line between swimsuit semi-porn and environmental activism. There’s no reason not to cross it.

While Israeli model Bar Rafaeli, is cranking up the heat on her Sports Illustrated cover, her boyfriend, actor and activist Leonardo DiCaprio, continues to fight global warming. At last, their hot bodies of work have struck gold.

Though the Revolutionary Road star was snubbed by the Academy this year, DiCaprio has been honored with this year’s International Green Film Award at the Cinema for Peace in Berlin. DiCaprio was deeply affected by the message in former Vice President Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth and has been spreading the word about global warming ever since. He then produced and narrated his own conscientious film, The 11th Hour. He also promotes peace in the industry outside of Hollywood, meaning he has been quite the international liason.

In addition to the customary statuette, 34 year-old DiCaprio has also been given $250,000 to either donate to an environmental foundation or create a documentary on the issue.

Is there a documentary Oscar on the horizon? Or perhaps he’ll give his eco-org, The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, a face lift. If not, he lists the National Resources Defense Council, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and Tree People as his favorite organizations.

He – and famous polar cub, Knut – appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair‘s Green Issue in April 2007 (pictured above). It’s perhaps my favorite VF cover to date.

More recently, DiCaprio traded in his hybrid Toyota Prius for a Tesla, the first high-performance electric car, which he described to the Daily Mail as an “unbelievable drive.”

This Thursday, we will be co-hosting Global Green USA’s 6th Annual Pre-Oscar Party at the Avalon in Hollywood. Proceeds benefit the group’s Green Schools Initiative. Sheryl Crowe and Mr. Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, will be performing.

Looks like those green pop tarts from the Grammys have been trumped.
