Ditch the Vinyl

As any trendy young college girl knows, it’s hip to carry your books in a Longchamp Le Pliage. The signature bag is comes in a variety of shades, from a blushing rose to a royal blue – enough colors to fit every girl’s unique style.

To be truthful, the Le Pliage is probably not that practical. It’s vinyl coating will surely rip with the addition of a textbook or two. And the leather handles are often too long or too short, drawing an unnecessary amount of attention to the girl sporting the must-have book bag.

My theory is if you’re going to attract attention, you might as well do it for all the right reasons. In this digital age, Longchamp’s new It Bag collection sheds the vinyl in exchange for a canvas-linen hybrid material that’s both chic and eco-friendly. It comes in either its natural linen shade or orange, with the words Ceci est un It Bag” scrawled across the front in French.

The hand drawn bag on the tote is a tongue in cheek reference to their other – more costly, not so green – bags, often seen swinging from the limp limbs of model Kate Moss. It celebrates the notion that fashion need not be taken so seriously. Simultaneously, it encourages people to forgo high fashion in exchange for a sustainable future. Ironically, it is probably one of their trendiest collections to date.

Perhaps the French do know best. J’adore.

XO, The Green Gamine
